Nebraska GIS Steering Committee
In the broadest sense, geographic information is information that includes a locational reference (latitude/longitude, map coordinates, street address) as part of the data and is generically referred to as geospatial or spatial data. The Nebraska Geographic Information System (GIS) Steering Committee is an intergovernmental coordinating body created by the Legislature in 1991, which includes representatives from state, local, regional and federal public entities. The mission of the Nebraska GIS Steering Committee is to encourage the appropriate utilization of GIS technology and to assist organizations to make public investments in GIS technology and geospatial data in an effective, efficient, and coordinated manner. A Coordinator provided through the Office of the CIO supports the GIS Steering Committee's work.
